Nothing better than a freshly squeezed orange juice, is not it? What if you could get apple, pear or even carrot juice at home? With juice extractors and centrifuges, it's possible! Which device is best for you? A short overview.
Juice extractors and centrifuges: what is it?
The juice extractor is a kitchen appliance equipped with a worm system (automatic or manual) which press the fruit or vegetable to extract the juice : we then speak ofcold extraction. On one side, a tank collects the precious nectar, on the other, the dried pulp is evacuated.
The centrifugeshe is appealing to a rotation system a rasp (up to 10,000 rpm) which "sprays" the fruit or vegetable to let the juice escape. A filter then separates the pulp to collect the liquid.
Be careful, for both devices, it is not possible to use soft fruits like mango, banana or peaches: you would get a puree of fruit. For these products, bet on the blender.
What are the advantages for each device?
Are you in a hurry? The centrifuge only needs a few seconds to make your favorite juices. The preparation is extremely fast: it is not even necessary to peel your food (except citrus)! The skin will be separated by the rotational movement and the juice will pass through the sieve in a few seconds.
For you, what matters is the nutritional value of food ? The juice extractor is the device that best preserves the vitamins of your products. The auger system, slower than the rotation, does not heat the fruit or vegetable: their fragile enzymes are then preserved. The little thing more? Your juices can be kept longer, about two days, compared to two hours for juices from centrifuges.
What place in the kitchen?
Automatic juice extractors and juicers are both rather bulky devices. The detail to remember: plan a work plan large enough to accommodate your device and the tank that will collect the juice (and waste for the automatic extractor). You have a small area? The manual juicer will be easier to conceal in a kitchen corner or store in a closet.
What noise in the morning?
We bet you will not enjoy your fresh juice for a long time if it means waking up your family too early every morning! Manufacturers have tried to reduce the noise of their devices, but for the centrifuge, it remains still substantial. Better then bet on the juicer, slower, but quieter.
What cleaning for a juicer or juice extractor?
Whether you adopt the juicer or juice extractor, it will be necessary, after each use, to clean the device immediately : fruit juices and vegetables can quickly damage the plastic parts of your appliance if you do not rinse them. With the centrifuge, it's easier: there are fewer parts and they are easily dismounted. Juicer side, be patient: the worm preserves the nutrients of your food, but is longer to clean than a tank. Also count three removable parts to clean to a minimum.
And price level?
There are models for both devices for all budgets. However, in general, the juice extractor remains more expensive. It can nevertheless represent a good investment: in general, the extractor produces 10 to 30% more juice than a centrifuge. You do not know which model to choose? Focus on the strength and practicality of the model to keep it longer.
Juice extractor or centrifuge: which device is right for you?
Are you still wondering about the choice of your future device? Ask yourself the right questions. If you simply want to make fruit and vegetable juices indiscriminately and quickly, bet on the juicer. You will save time on preparation and cleaning.
If, on the other hand, you wish to obtain juices of excellent quality and which are kept longer, you will find your happiness in juice extractors. They preserve all the vitamins of your fruits and vegetables for a nutritive supply more easily controlled.
